As a GIS intern, he performed legal description mapping, asset mapping, and the updating of system mapping using GIS software. His field operations work involved pipeline maintenance and reviewing pipeline drawings.

Mr. Ferrell was involved the Texas Tech Junction Survey Project and Comanche Trail Project. The Texas Tech Junction Survey Project involved him surveying and mapping the Texas Tech campus at Junction boundaries. With the Comanche Trail Project, he worked with the West Texas Historical Association members to draft a map of newly discovered buffalo trails. His other accomplishments include creating GIS maps, which can be found at https://arcg.is/1PTaqD. Mr. Ferrell also made the president’s list one semester and the dean’s list three semesters while earning his degree.

Professionally, Mr. Ferrell aims to explore GIS mapping, its capabilities in assisting during natural disasters, and its uses in visualizing historical events. His interests also include exploring how GIS software can improve 3D visualization and AI mapping, untapped energy reserves, and drilling technology’s innovation in making the energy industry safer and cleaner.
